Let's Know about "procrastination" (the habit of always put off the task/job)

The habit of delaying a task/work you don't like and even doing other work, in psychology world is called procrastination. People who have such symptom is called a procrastinator. Although it seems like a trivial problem but it would be very harmful to the person itself if he/she becomes a procrastinator too long.

There are some common characteristics possessed by a procrastinator. Are you one of them?



1. Optimistic vs. fear

A procrastinator is usually very confident to complete a job within a short time. For example, we feel able to make a book keeping within 2 hours. So if there is a time of 12 hours, 10 hours can be used to relax. In fact, the real reason behind this is laziness, fear of inability, or do not like the job.


2. Feels too busy

By feels too busy procrastinator, ultimately it make a person not doing a task/duty that he should do. For example, we feel unable to complete the task because we have to clean the room as well as cooking. Yet in the end, none of that task is done.


3. Stubborn

A procrastinator feels that he absolutely can not be forced to do something. This is because of the belief, everything must be arranged by yourself or by having to wait a good mood to appears by itself.


4. Always be a victim

Because they can not do a good job or get a bad grade, a procrastinator feels he/she is a victim of circumstances. Unfortunately procrastinator totally unaware if it was all a result of his/her own mistakes.


5. Like to make a switch

When you had to do your duty, suddenly you want to listen to music or watching TV. This is one of the feature often owned by procrastinator. Because of just wishing to avoid the awkward task, the procrastinator finally choose to do something else less important.


Why procrastinate?


There are several things that can cause the nature of procrastination:

1. The false belief

It means the false belief that is the belief of when you are working under pressure or in a narrow time, it will improve working performance and make you more challenging.


2. Fear of failure

Excessive fear you bear when you're thinking you are going to fail to do the duty/task, will make you avoiding those task/duty.


3. Perfectionist

Of Which will ultimately makes you feel no need to do a task that you do not like.


4. Rush

The nature of rushing or so-called impulsive make procrastinator quickly switch to something other than his/her main task.


5. Rebel

Procrastination could emerge as a reaction of rebellion towards parents or authoritarian boss who likes control their work and life.
